Beth Nielsen, Third-Generation Leader, Adds Food Service to Portfolio in new role as Chief Culinary Officer

Waukegan, Illinois - September 2009 - After several years as Nielsen-Massey Vanillas’ Director-International, Beth Nielsen is now adding food service to her portfolio as Chief Culinary Officer.

She will manage food service sales and continue culinary research and recipe development. She advises chefs, both culinary and pastry, on creative recipe applications and flavor combinations with Nielsen-Massey’s products. Constant communication with her international network of culinary professionals puts this producer of the world’s finest pure vanillas and flavors at the cutting edge of new products desired by chefs and mixologists around the globe.

Nielsen-Massey has been distributing vanilla products and other pure extracts for more than a century. The company’s food service division supplies independent restaurants, chains, hotels, caterers, artisanal bakers, chocolatiers, pastry and frozen dessert shops as well as cooking schools worldwide with quality vanillas and fine flavorings in convenient, cost-effective quantities.

Nielsen and her brothers are the third generation to own and operate the family business. Her history in food service began with “research and development” of ice cream in her family kitchen, Nielsen says, and has continued with domestic and international experience in food service, management and marketing.

“Continuing to expand on our family legacy is an honor,” says Nielsen. “I hope to capitalize on these strengths to ensure that our pure flavors are exceptional for a new generation of palates.”

About Vanilla
Vanilla is the only fruit-bearing member of the orchid family. Native to Mexico, vanilla beans are hand pollinated on family plantations. At the time of harvesting, the vanilla bean pods are green and have absolutely no characteristic vanilla flavor or aroma. It is only after the curing process that the vanilla beans turn brown in color and the flavor and aroma develops. It takes several years from planting the seed, to cultivation, curing and extraction.
